Planned Parenthood Youth Programs Cut in California | HIVPlusMag.com NewsPlanned Parenthood representatives and supporters yesterday asked the Orange County, Calif., Board of Supervisors to reverse its decision suspending the organization’s contract to provide health education services to county youths. The board voted unanimously last month to cancel the $291,788 contract because the nonprofit performs abortions.

Planned Parenthood had assured the board that no county funds were being used for abortions. The curriculum it presented included information on anatomy, abstinence, birth control, and sexually transmitted diseases.

The board was presented with petitions signed by about 4,000 people asking that the funding be restored. Some speakers disagreed and voiced support for the board’s action. Because the issue was not on the agenda, no action was taken.
