Visual AIDS to Present ACT NOW: Perspectives on Contemporary Performance and HIV/AIDS

Visual AIDS and the New Museum will present ACT NOW: Perspectives on Contemporary Performance and HIV/AIDS, moderated by Benjamin Shepard. The event will feature a discussion between performers Justin Vivian Bond, Hunter Reynolds, and Julie Tolentino that explore the evolving role performance has played in the context of HIV and AIDS. The event is made possible through a grant from the New York Council for the Humanities.

Bailey House Celebrity Fundraising Event to Support HIV/AIDS


Bailey House will hold a fundraising benefit at LQNY in Manhattan featuring a performance by American Idol’s Diana DeGarmo. The evening will include a silent auction and several musical performances in addition to DeGarmo including Steve Grand (pictured above). Tony Award-winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell, and actor Matt Letcher (Scandal and Carrie Diaries) are honorary chairs.

The event, starting at 8 p.m., will help raise funds for the organization, which has been providing housing and supportive services to men, women, and children dealing with HIV and AIDS since 1983.

Gregory House Annual Fundraiser and Awards Dinner


Gregory House Programs will hold its annual Kahu Malama Award Dinner and silent auction fundraiser at 6 p.m. at the Leahi Club Lounge (the former Hanohano Room) at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. The award dinner is the organization’s signature event, and will feature Hawaiian cuisine with sophisticated food stations prepared by chefs at Sheraton Waikiki.

Leaders from the Unity Church of Hawaii, an inclusive church that has offered significant support and outreach to and for the homeless, incarcerated, seniors, and persons living with HIV and AIDS, will accept this year’s Kahu Malama award.

Gregory House Programs was founded in 1988 and is now in its 25th year of providing a myriad of homeless prevention programs, comprehensive services, and a food-bank and nutritional program to more than 325 families and individuals living with HIV and AIDS each year.

Project Angel Food to Host 2nd Annual DELISH Fundraiser


Los Angeles non-profit Project Angel Food, will host its foodie fundraising event, “DELISH: Party With Culinary Experience” at 5 p.m. at the new Siren Cube at Siren Studios in Hollywood.

The event will showcase and eclectic mix of food and beverage stations serving a variety of tasty treats and delicious drinks. Culinary experts and ace mixologists will be on hand to help guide guests as they mix and match their picks of the many food & beverage options available.  

Co-hosted by Annabeth Gish from FX’s latest hit The Bridge and Hollywood insider John McIlwee, this year’s DELISH expands on the success of last year’s well-received inaugural outing with an increased number of food and beverage providers. In addition, Project Angel Food has partnered with Hasbro to launch Kids Delish, and will be giving away 25 Easy-Bake Ovens to the first 25 ticketed children through the door.  

Tickets are $100 each or $25 per child (12 and under).

We Were Here Screening and Talkback with Director David Weissman


As part of Chronicling The Queer: The Films of David Weisman, Visual AIDS, and the Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art will present a screening of We Were Here at 6:30 p.m.  The Emmy-nominated film will feature at the Lohman Museum, and director David Weissman will be on hand for a post screening talkback with the audience.

Regarded by many as the first documentary to usher in the current wave of films about the early days of the AIDS epidemic, the film concentrates on the many lives changed forever at the beginning of the ongoing HIV/AIDS crisis.

T.J. Martell Foundation to Present Artworks For the Cure 3-Day Event


Two-time Grammy winning singer songwriter Colbie Caillat will headline and perform October 12 at Artwork for the Cure charity exhibition at Barker Hangar. The exhibition benefiting the T.J. Martell Foundation is billed as a contemporary offbeat, eclectic and sometimes irreverent charity art show. This years show will feature work from over 100 artists from around the globe. Emmy-winning journalist and television star Mark Steines will host the Spirit of Excellence Awards Dinner honoring Daniel Ek (Spotify), Rob Wells (Universal Music Group), Troy Carter (Atom Factory), and Catherine An (Tiato Restaurants and An Catering).

The 3-day event showcasing art, live music, wine and gourmet food trucks will benefit the foundation as it continues it’s funding of innovative cancer research.

Visual AIDS Presents 16th Annual Postcards From the Edge Benefit


Visual AIDS present’s Postcards From the Edge, the organization’s first annual benefit event of the year for 2014. The 16th annual event will take place at host gallery Luhring Augustine and will provide an opportunity for the public to purchase original pieces of postcard-sized artwork by established and emerging artists. The pieces will be uniformly priced, with the artist’s identity revealed only after the work has been purchased. This year the organization expects to sell more than 1,500 pieces.

The event, beginning with a preview party on January 17 at 5 p.m. culminates with the two-day benefit sale of postcard sized art on January 18 at 10 a.m. and continues January 19 at noon. Visual AIDS first held Postcards From the Edge in 1998 and has since raised nearly $650,000 via the annual fundraiser.  

Admission is first-come, first-served with a suggested donation of $5 each day.
