GMHC hosted a commemorative walk from its headquarters to the NYC AIDS Memorial
The walk was in remembrance of the first meeting of GMHC’s six founders and their supporters – on August 11, 1981 – who came together to launch the world’s first AIDS service organization to combat the epidemic. Among those walking yesterday were GMHC staff, clients and long-term AIDS survivors, united in solidarity to continue the progress started in the 1980s and to end AIDS and fight for equality for members of the LGBT community.
