The Finnish artist Touko Laaksonen (1920-1991) became internationally famous as Tom of Finland, widely considered the most influential creator of homoerotic art. His drawings eroticized masculinity by featuring men with exaggerated attributes and overtly sexual poses. Many of his images involved police officers, S&M imagery, and/or leathermen, which made the timing of the condom release particularly meaningful.
ONE Partnering with Tom of Finland Foundation
ONE partnered with the Tom of Finland Foundation to produce condom wrappers featuring 24 black and white images from the internationally renowned artist. Laaksonen established the Foundation in 1984 with his partner, Durk Dehner, who serves as its president today. Laaksonen passed away in 1991 from emphysema.
Safer Sex Tom of Finland
During the 1980s, at the height of the AIDS crisis, the artist began including condoms in his drawings to promote safer sex and help curb the epidemic.
“The ONE brand shares the Foundation’s commitment to promoting healthier attitudes about sexuality,” said Dehner in a press release, “Tom of Finland was dubbed ‘the Michelangelo of safe sex,’ promoting sexual health, particularly among gay men.”
Condom Sales Support Erotic Art
A portion of all sales of the Tom of Finland condoms will support the Foundation in its mission to preserve the artist's legacy and protect the work and careers of erotic artists worldwide.
The Tom of Finland line is part of a series of collaborations between ONE and prominent artists in support of sexual health and other causes. These special edition condoms, are packaged in ONE's signature round wrappers, and available in two styles: super sensitive and legend.
