One in six New Yorkers would be at risk for HIV infection'whether they believed it or not. According to recent tabulations of a 2004 cross-sectional survey of adult residents in the Big Apple, of the 18% who reported unsafe sex or drug-use behavior, 92% still believed they were not at risk for HIV. The survey also found that 12% to 29% of city residents with HIV did not realize they were infected.
