Greg Louganis Came Out as Poz in 1988

Louganis learned that he was HIV-positive just before the 1988 Olympics in Seol, where the Gold Medalist accidently hit his head on the diving board. He came out later that year in his memoir Breaking the Surface.  Although no other past or current Olympic athlete has come out about being HIV-positive. Louganis told Plus in an exclusive interview, that there are other poz althetes. But, he added, "There is still stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS — that you are sick, or there is something 'wrong' with you. But with some of the advancements in treatment, both Eastern and Western, and some positive images like Magic Johnson and Ji Wallace and myself, it helps to ease that stigma."
