HIV Plus reported in February 2005 that New York AIDS activist Victor Mooney planned a solo transatlantic row to raise HIV awareness. After several delays, Mooney set off on May 7 from Goree, Senegal. About an hour after his departure he sent out a distress call when the boat sprang a leak and sank. Mooney was unharmed.
