KABUL, AFGHANISTAN--Afghan drug addicts are seen through a window mural at Nejat Center, a rehab facility. The center is a response to ulnerable Afghan people, working with the communities for the prevention treatment, and care of drug users and HIV patients. Although Afghanistan has long been a source of the opium imported into Europe and Asia, only in the past several years has drug addiction begun to afflict citizens. According to health officials, the number of people addicted to heroin, an injectable drug, in the capital city alone has doubled since just 2003. Photo by Massoud Hossaini/Getty Images
