African-Americans coinfected with HIV and hepatitis C experience much better responses to the anti-hepatitis regimen of Pegasys plus Ribavirin when dosed twice a week instead of the standard once-weekly administration, according to a recent study. The researchers noted a significantly greater decline in HCV viral levels among blacks dosed twice weekly, and say they believe the doubled treatment approach may produce the best long-term HCV suppression among HIV-HCV coinfected African-Americans.
