The Reverend Al Sharpton announced in August that he's launching a nationwide initiative to fight homophobia among African-Americans, which he says plays a key role in HIV-related stigma and the spread of the disease among blacks. The initiative will include forums and conferences at schools and churches as well as a radio advertising campaign. Marjorie Fields-Harris, the executive director of Sharpton's National Action Network civil rights organization, will head the initiative.
