Despite nearly a quarter century of public education campaigns about HIV, a significant proportion of Americans still cling to the belief that HIV was invented by the U.S. government as a way to eliminate minority populations, according to a survey of Texas residents in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes. African-Americans and Hispanics were the most likely to believe that AIDS is a genocidal conspiracy.
