Greatest Overlooked Song About a Poz Person This Year
After coming of age during the height of the AIDS crisis and losing three of her beloved teachers to the disease's complications, San Francisco folk-rock storyteller Rachel Garlin decided to pay a musical tribute to famed artist Keith Haring, who died of AIDS-related complications in 1990, with her sweet, folksy, guitar-filled tune, “Hey Keith Haring” on her new album, Wink at July.
Now a teacher herself and a touring musician, Garlin (who is raising two kids with her wife) lets her voice do as much talking as the lyrics, which strike a chord, especially for people who grew up at a time when little was known about the disease.
