Battling Stigma While Living With HIV

Four poz individuals speak openly about dealing with stigma and HIV.

For this episode of Plus’s video series, “The Talk,” we connect with four inspiring individuals on how they handle stigma while living with HIV. Stigma is a barrier to open conversations and seeking treatment that can make living with HIV a lot more difficult for people who are affected by it. But there are a lot of ways to combat stigma, from accepting that people will react a certain way to getting educated and educating others. And one thing that these four individuals educate us on is how U=U (that people with HIV who achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load cannot sexually transmit the virus to others) helps break stigma apart. “So, U=U has made me feel more confident,” HIV activist Caleb Brown starts. “The taboo of HIV is being pulled away,” Caleb shares.
