In Nye County, about 150 miles northwest of Las Vegas, the licensing and liquor board has approved a compliance agreement that will allow the Shady Lady Ranch brothel to begin offering the services of male prostitutes.
The male sex workers must wear condoms and undergo weekly health checks. Two members opposed the proposal on health grounds. Nye County sheriff Tony DeMeo, who serves on the board, said he is worried because female customers will not be subjected to the same types of examinations that female workers typically perform on male customers before engaging in sex.
Brothel owner Jim Davis says he expects to have a male sex worker on staff in about two weeks.
