Pop star and AIDS activist Elton John wrote a letter on Tuesday to Florida Gov. Rick Scott pleading with him to not change income requirements to his state's AIDS Drug Assistance Program.
The ADAP program allows HIV-positive people to obtain life-saving medications for free or at a discounted price. Florida is considering lowering the financial requirements for the program, so people making over a certain income threshold would be bumped from the program--1,600 could be kicked off Florida's ADAP if the change moves forward.
John, founder of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, asked Scott in his letter to leave the ADAP program in tact.
