Fox released the first trailer of its anticipated remake of the musical cult classic.
Laverne Cox has us trembling in anticipation.
The transgender actress dazzles in the new trailer for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a remake of the 1975 cult musical that will air in October on Fox. The clip was dropped Thursday.
Cox portrays Dr. Frank-N-Furter, "a sweet transvestite from Transylvania" who plays host to (and rocks the world of) Janet (Victoria Justice) and Brad (Brian McCartan).
The cast also includes Adam Lambert as Eddie, Reeve Carney as Riff Raff, Christina Milian as Magenta, Annaleigh Ashford as Columbia, and Staz Nair as Rocky Horror. Tim Curry, who originated the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, will return in the reboot as The Criminologist.
The casting of Cox has generated controversy within the transgender community. Some worried about the implications of a transgender woman being cast in the a role of a man who dresses in women’s clothes.
In an earlier phone conversation with The Advocate, Cox’s agent brushed aside concerns. “It’s a role, and she, like every other actor, plays a role. There’s nothing more to it," said agent Paul Hilepo of the Hartig Hilepo Agency Ltd. in New York.
