My HIV Journey: Aaron Laxton's YouTube Series on Living with HIV
On June 6, 2011, Aaron Laxton was diagnosed with HIV. Since then, Laxton has created a personal YouTube video series that chronicles his life after the diagnosis as a way for him to cope and learn about HIV, as well as open up a platform with those that may find themselves in the same situation.
“I hope that you’ll scroll through all the videos and you’ll see everything from the highs to the lows of my life that I have documented and shared with each of you,” Laxton said in his trailer made three years after his diagnosis, an introduction to the material that he has comprised over the years.
In the first video blog of the series, shot four days after being diagnosed with HIV, Aaron shares a personal anecdote while in sitting in his car after a doctor’s appointment. He begins to share his thoughts, connecting car drives as a place of routine, but also a place of solace when “everything runs through your head” after visiting the doctor. In the video, he gives reason for talking about his journey with hopes that people in the same situation can see that life can still go on between appointments.
