A deal struck between the Washington, D.C.-based Whitman-Walker Clinic and several Virginia groups will keep the clinic's Arlington, Va., HIV care center open through the end of 2006. Whitman-Walker had planned to close the suburban clinic--which serves about 1,400 HIV patients--in October as part of its efforts to trim $2.5 million from its annual budget. Virginia groups will contribute about $590,000 to keep the clinic open. A suburban Whitman-Walker clinic in Takoma Park, Md., was set to close on October 1.
