An HIV-positive man in Spanish Fork, Utah, has filed a civil rights lawsuit against two doctors and a medical center that refused to perform surgery on his ulcerated toe. According to court documents, one of the doctors told Daniel Richardson that employees at the HealthSouth Provo Surgical Center refused to prep him for surgery because of his HIV infection and because the center has a policy barring HIV-positive patients. The lawsuit claims the doctors and health center violated the Americans With Disabilities Act and seeks unspecified actual and punitive damages.
