Can T-20 Stop Vertical Transmissions?

Although most pregnant HIVers are prescribed AZT or Viramune to prevent transmission of the virus to their infants, researchers say it may also be possible to use the protease inhibitor Aptivus with the entry inhibitor T-20 when drug resistance is present. A case study in the journal AIDS of a 33-year-old woman resistant to most older anti-HIV drugs showed an Aptivus/T-20-based six-drug salvage regimen helped lower her viral load from above 200,000 copies to just 73 copies, allowing her to avoid transmitting the virus to her infant during delivery.
