Plus magazine's sister publication, Out, is continuing its viral series on dating in the queer community.
In Dating PrEP 2.0, LGBTQ+ figures like RuPaul's Drag Race star Kim Chi, body-positive model Dexter Mayfield, Queer as Folk actor Johnny Sibilly, and singer Jake Wesley Rogers offer helpful tips and insights for finding love and self-love in modern times.
In the series, Chi discusses the difficulties while dating as a famous drag performer; the season 8 star of Drag Race has gone on to launch the successful brand of Kim Chi Chic Cosmetics, and she also reveals the role of makeup in her private life.
Meanwhile, Mayfield, a judge on Come Dance With Me, is fighting dating racism while also being an advocate for body positivity. Mayfield, a dancer and a model, recently made headlines for recreating a classic Out Swimsuit Issue cover and redefining what it means to be beautiful in the process.
Fans of queer TV will certainly know Sibilly. From Pose to Hacks to Queer as Folk (the gay actor appeared on Out's 2022 Pride cover), Sibilly has shown modern-day audiences what it means to be queer and Latinx — and also the realities of interracial relationships. In Dating PrEP 2.0, Sibilly discusses the importance of this representation as well as how Pretty Woman informed his courtship rituals.
And then there's Rogers, a rising star in the music world who has opened for Ben Platt and Panic! At the Disco with bops like "Middle of Love" and "Momentary." Rogers discusses navigating love life while on tour but also stresses why self-love is so important. As he told Out, "loving yourself is really hot."
The goal of this series, first launched in 2021, is to prep our audience with the tools and confidence they need to get out there. These tools range from advice on grooming, to self-confidence, to sexual health, like taking pre-exposure prophylaxis, a daily treatment that is up to 99 percent effective in preventing HIV.
Last year, Out editors spoke with another cast of LGBTQ+ notables like Ryan Jamaal Swain from Pose, nutritionist Dave Coast, dating guru David Cruz, and musician Jesse Montana, where they also offered advice on how to prepare for dating in today’s queer community.
