\A new survey shows that many African-Americans believe in conspiracy theories about HIV'with close to one half of respondents saying they think that 'HIV is a man-made virus' and more than half saying that they believe a cure exists but is being kept from poor individuals. Public-health officials need to recruit and train more black peer educators, AIDS experts say, and craft culturally relevant sex education messages to help counter these beliefs and break through the mistrust.
