Rising syphilis rates among gay men may be more linked with natural disease cycles than a rise in unprotected sex, according to researchers in London. Similar jumps in syphilis have been seen in the past, the scientists report, with the sexually transmitted disease seemingly following a natural cycle that peaks at eight- to 11-year intervals.
