The AIDS-related pneumonia death of the 3-year-old daughter of Christine Maggiore in May has prompted an investigation by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. The girl's parents refused to have her or her 8-year-old brother tested for HIV infection even though Maggiore is HIV-positive and breast-fed both children when they were infants. Maggiore is the founder of Alive & Well AIDS Alternatives, a group that challenges the connection between HIV and AIDS. Maggiore says her daughter's death has not changed her doubts about HIV and that she and her husband dispute the coroner's findings regarding the girl's cause of death.
