Lady Liberty, the Empire State Building, or other New York City icons soon could be adorning the packages of condoms distributed through city HIV prevention campaigns. In order to help track the reach and impact of condom distribution programs, health officials plan to launch their own brand of easily identifiable prophylactics in the city. 'We also aim to use the packaging to promote condom use and awareness,' says health commissioner Tom Frieden. New York's 'Free Condom Initiative' dispenses about 1 million condoms each month through community and social organizations.
