50% The proportion of new adult and adolescent HIV infections in the United States occurring in African-Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on data collected between 2001 and 2005 in the 33 states that used names-based reporting of HIV cases. Most new infections are occurring in the 25'44 age group, of which African-Americans accounted for 48%. Overall, black individuals make up 13% of the population in the 33 states where data was studied.
