An unexpected effect of global warming is that it could be the catalyst for a chain of events that leads to more AIDS-related deaths worldwide, epidemiology experts warn. The chain, they say, is that warmer climates hamper food production, food scarcity leads to poor nutrition, and poor nutrition weakens the body's immune system, boosting the risks for AIDS-related complications and death. The scientists warn that governments of poor nations and organizations working in developing countries need to intensify their efforts to slow the spread of HIV and to treat people already infected before the effects of global warming worsen.
