Pregnant HIVers should take a higher-than-normal dose of Kaletra during the final trimester of pregnancy, according to new guidelines from the Department of Health and Human Services. Because blood levels of lopinavir, the active ingredient in Kaletra, can drop by as much as 50% during the final trimester, pregnant HIVers should take four capsules of Kaletra twice daily, according to the revisions, instead of the standard regimen of three capsules twice daily.
