If you find yourself heading to a hospital, you'll want to make sure your HIV specialist coordinates your antiretroviral treatment with any prescribed by your hospital doc. An anonymous survey of physicians reported in the February 2 issue of the Journal of the International AIDS Society has shown that knowledge of antiretroviral treatment -- particularly of newer drugs and their combinations -- was typically poor among hospital physicians. In particular, caregivers who were neither infectious disease specialists nor HIV specialists on average scored less than 6% on questions about antiretroviral dosing.
