A new documentary chronicles the lives of a determined, unified gang residing blocks away from the White House.

Check It, the festival-fave documentary about a gang of LGBT youth of color in Washington, D.C., is coming to a video platform near you.

The film tells the story of a group of young LGBT people, mostly African-American, who responded to bullying by forming a gang called Check It in 2009. They’ve built a reputation for unity and for vengeance against anyone who dares to cross them. The documentary film Check It, which has been a hit at film festivals aince premiering at Tribeca last year, will be available on all major video-on-demand platforms beginning Friday.

Executive-produced by Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci, and Louis C.K., Check It highlights the daily lives of the gang’s prominent members, showcasing the experiences that bind them. One of the members, Tray, says at the end of the film: “I may not be where I want to go, but I’m not where I was yesterday.”

The members of Check It have tried to leave violence behind, turning to more productive pursuits, such as creating a fashion label, but their lives are still filled with challenges. A raw, inspiring, and sometimes disturbing depiction of a D.C. we don't often see, the film highlights the young people's resiliency, loyalty to one another, and above all, courageous commitment to better themselves.
