New 'Consent Condom' Requires Four Hands to Open

An Argentinian condom company is emphasizing awareness around consent before engaging in sexual activity with a package that requires four hands to get to the condom inside, according to CBS.

"If they don't say yes, it means no. Consent is the most important thing in sex,” the tagline in the promo video for the “consent condom” from the Argentinian sex toy retailer Tulipán reads.

Like a childproof cap for condoms, the package for the “consent condom” calls for four hands to simultaneously push buttons on each side of the square package to unlock the condom within.

 

 

"Tulipán has always spoken of safe pleasure, but for this campaign, we understood that we had to talk about the most important thing in every sexual relationship. Pleasure is possible only if you both give your consent," Joaquin Campins from the ad agency BBDO, said in a statement. 

The limited-edition condoms from Tulipán were placed in bars and events around Buenos Aires and will be available for purchase later this year.

The company has also kicked off a robust social media campaign to emphasize consent with a video that shows four hands unlocking the condom without a hitch. The hashtag accompanying the video is "#PlacerConsentido (permitted pleasure)."

The “consent pack” was created in response to statistics released by AHF Argentina, (an organization that works with people living with HIV) that showed that only 14.5 percent of Argentinian men regularly use a condom. Meanwhile, 65 percent said they occasionally use them and 20.5 percent said they’d never used one, according to the Next Web.
