APLA and the Team to End AIDS (T2) hosted the third annual Jolly St. Knickers Run last month, which had folks donning their gay apparel and seasonal skivvies and running through West Hollywood, Calif. to raise $12,324.00 for the Pendelton / Goldman PrEP program, which is a part of the primary medical care services offered through APLA's new Health & Wellness Gleicher / Chen Health Center in South Los Angeles. The expanded and renovated health center, named in recognition of a leadership gift from Board Member Howard Gleicher and Damon Chen, provides much needed free and low-cost services to the community, with a specific focus on low-income gay and bisexual men and transgender individuals. The PrEP program is the first of its kind in the area.
Participants stuffed their own stockings for the 5K fun run, which began at The Abbey and continued down Santa Monica Boulevard through the heart of West Hollywood. Many were aided by T2 which trains everyone from couch potatoes to seasoned athletes to finish a range of events, including full and half marathons, triathlons, and trail runs, along with shorter “fun runs.”
