PrEP? PEP? Just what is this new treatment option?

It's been two years since the Food and Drug Administration approved the drug Truvada for the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis, but the prevention plan hasn't grown in popularity as much as expected, especially now that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend it for 1 in 4 gay and bi men. Some of this is due to some confusion about what PrEP is, the stigma around using it, and the overall stigma of having HIV in general.

In case you've missed the 31 Days of PrEP coverage over at our sister publication The Advocate, here's a short video by Youreka Science and Beta, of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, to summarize what PrEP is and what its recommended uses are.
