Dr. Anthony Fauci, Glenn Close to be Honored With amfAR Award of Courage in Virtual 'Gala For Our Time'

The amfAR A Gala For Our Time will recognize Dr. Anthony Fauci and Close with an Award of Courage for their continued efforts against HIV.

Dr. Anthony Fauci and actress Glenn Close will be honored next month by amfAR with the group’s Award of Courage in a special virtual event. Entitled A Gala For Our Time, the free event takes place Thursday, March 4, and will be livestreamed on the group’s website. Julia Roberts and Bette Midler will virtually present the awards with Pose star and new amfAR trustee Billy Porter, It’s a Sin’s Olly Alexander and Lydia West, actor Nathan Lane, singer Boy George, NBA legend Magic Johnson, and other luminaries in attendance. amfAR is one of the leading nonprofit groups in the battle against HIV.

“We are delighted to be honoring Glenn Close and Dr. Anthony Fauci with our Award of Courage, and thrilled that Julia Roberts and Bette Midler have graciously agreed to present the awards,” amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost said in a statement. “A longtime supporter of the fight against AIDS and LGBTQ rights, Ms. Close has garnered acclaim for her unforgettable performance as Roy Cohn in amfAR’s recent production of scenes from Angels in America. Today, Dr. Fauci needs no introduction. But he has been at the forefront of the fight against AIDS and a staunch ally and colleague for 35 years, and he is a most deserving honoree.”

Kelley Clarkson and Ava Max will perform at amfAR's 'Virtual Gala For Our Time' honoring Dr. Anthony Fauci and Glenn Close for their continued efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Kelly Clarkson (above left), Ava Max (above right), and Rita Ora are slated to perform with a star-studded guest list including Chelsea Handler, Emily Hampshire, and others. amfAR chairs include Morgan Freeman, Matthew Broderick, Diplo, Catherine O’Hara, Sara Jessica Parker, and others.

amfAR is a leader in the fight against HIV through research, prevention, treatment education, and advocacy. The group has invested over half a million dollars in the effort since 1985 and awarded more than 3,300 research grants worldwide.

“This virtual gala has the advantage of being free and open to guests from any location,” said Frost. “So we hope to extend a warm welcome to you, wherever you happen to be.”

A Gala for Our Time will be livestreamed starting at 8 p.m. Eastern and can be viewed at amfarvirtualgala.org.
