The Food and Drug Administration is warning against the use of the dietary supplement Xiadafil VIP, which is commonly sold as an over-the-counter treatment for erectile dysfunction or as a sexual enhancer. The compound contains the same active ingredient found in Viagra, which can cause a life-threatening drop in blood pressure among men taking medications to control diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease'all of which are common conditions among HIVers. Anyone who is using the supplement should discontinue it immediately, the FDA warns.
