One of the first questions that pops into the minds of newly diagnosed HIVers is: What should my first drug regimen include? While there's no hard and fast rule as to which meds to take, a new study suggests one combination that shouldn't be tried first: Videx+Emtriva+unboosted Reyataz. A study of 1,045 treatment-naive HIVers presented at the XVII International AIDS Conference showed that 16.2% of those treated with that particular combination experienced viral rebound after 48 weeks of treatment, rising to 23.9% after 96 weeks. Based on the study data, the researchers recommend that HIVers prescribed this regimen speak with their physicians about changing to an alternative combination.
