Saluting a Father of Safer Sex

Saluting a Father of Safer Sex

What if you knew how to stop a devastating, unfolding pandemic but no one would listen? That's precisely the focus of the award-winning documentary Sex Positive, which explores the life of Richard Berkowitz. In 1983, Berkowitz was one of the first to promote safer sex to protect against HIV, but he was dismissed -- even ridiculed -- by his gay male peers. 'Safer sex came from activists, porn stars, sex workers, and their community-driven efforts,' says Berkowitz. 'That's what we've lost over the years and that's what I'm hoping people will learn from this very timely film.' Distributed by HIV Plus's sister company Regent Releasing, Sex Positive will open in theaters in June and will be screening at a number of independent and gay film festivals this spring and summer.
