The state of Illinois has moved to a names-based HIV case reporting system, scrapping its old code-based method. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will begin tying some federal AIDS funding to HIV case reporting in 2006, but the agency accepts data only from names-based systems, which it claims are more accurate. Illinois's switch is to avoid loss of federal grants, say state officials.
