If you’re HIV-positive and anywhere near Louisiana, the Pennington Biomedical Outpatient Clinic is offering $100 for a participation study examining the health behaviors of those living with HIV.
“The long-term goal of this research is to mitigate the disparities in adverse health behaviors in order to reduce comorbidities and poor health outcomes,” Dr. John Apolzan, associate professor of research, said in a statement.
According to the study details, participants will visit the clinic for one study visit. After they’re enrolled, they’ll complete several questionnaires and undergo a seven-day activity monitoring. Those eligible and interested will also be invited to partake in the ancillary study assessments.
In order to participate, you have to be at least 18 years old, have a documented HIV infection, and be in care at an HIV specialty clinic.
“At Pennington Biomedical, our mission is to discover triggers of chronic disease through innovative research that improves human health across the lifespan,” said Dr. John Kirwan, executive director of Pennington Biomedical.
He continued, “While a majority of our research focuses on causes of thing like obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and dementia, it’s also important for us to work toward ways to help improve health outcomes for individuals with other chronic immune system diseases like HIV or AIDS.”
The study hopes to learn more about the health behaviors of HIV-positive patients to move toward ending the stigma.
