With the addition of cast member Danny Pintauro, audiences are anticipating the second season of Unsure/Positive more than ever. Luckily, creator Christian Kiley sat down with Plus to discuss what we can expect.
But don't get too excited. After all, he can't give too much away.
“The second season is all about the principal characters from the first season,” he says, “and that takes shape. In terms of my character Kieran, he has a new job at a private school. It’s the closest thing to a big kid job he’s ever had. For him, it’s all about moving forward and moving past his issues with addiction, moving past all his inflicting use he had the first season. Anything can happen now."
Kiley shared with Plus an experience he had dealing with discrimination at work because of his positive status.
“I went as far as filing a claim against them," he explained, "which I withdrew because I had to keep my head there – living paycheck to paycheck.” This experience is one of many, he says, that will be implemented in the new season. Casting is a whole other story.
“These roles demand so much of people,” he explains, “so I’ve been casting partly through normal casting sessions, but also what I prefer to do is reach out to my network of friends who are actors – some in New York, some in Boston — and through them I made my way to people like Amaker Smith (a possible love interest for Kiley's character "Kieran"), who’s fantastic: who’s a queer black man I’m so lucky to have in the show.”
The producers of Unsure/Positive need our help to make season two the best it can be!
The creative team launched a Kickstarter campaign, which needs to raise $7,500 by December 1, World AIDS Day. The funds will help to produce six 22-minute episodes for its second season. Go donate!
In the meantime, check out episode three of season one, which can be streamed on YouTube, here:
