There are five basic steps to washing your hands thoroughly and properly to minimize bacteria and other harmful germs during the cold and flu season. (1) Wet hands before using soap. (2) Lather hands up with soap. (3) Scrub between fingers, wrists, palms, and under fingernails for a full 30 seconds. (4) Rinse completely with clean water. (5) Dry with a clean towel or air.
