Knocking on Doors to Test for HIV

Volunteers in a neighborhood in Philadelphia are mobilizing to offer free HIV tests to residents in one of the highest concentrated areas of people with HIV.

According to CNN, more than 19,000 people in Philadelphia have HIV, and the most affected population are black residents and lower income neighborhoods with limited access to health care services. The volunteer project -- Do One Thing, Change Everything -- targets people of color in the 19143 ZIP code to lower the racial disparity among HIV-positive people.

Amy Nunn, the founder of the campaign, requires volunteers to go door-to-door educating people about the virus and offering free rapid tests. From there, if residents test positive, the volunteers then help them find free treatment. Since the beginning of the program, 160 people have been tested, with none being tested positive.
