Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault of Teen, Outed as Poz

An affidavit alleges the Texas man met the boy via Grindr and did not reveal his status.

A Dallas-area man was charged with sexual assault of a child after police arrested him for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old boy, according to ABC affiliate WFAA. His HIV status came up during his interogation.

The man, 44-year-old Roger Kessler, was a music teacher at the Richardson Independent School District Academy. An affidavit revealed that Kessler told police he was HIV positive, and that on one of the four occasions he had sex with the 15 year old, he did not use a condom and did not disclose to the teenager. Kessler and the teen met while using Grindr and he claims the teen was the only juvenile he’d hooked up with.

He was caught by the boy’s mother leaving the back of her house. She called the police for a suspected burglary. Text messages between the two reveal their intention to meet for sex the night of Kessler’s arrest, but according to the Dallas Morning News the teen claims that sexual contact did not occur.

Police are concerned that Kessler may have more teenage victims but WFAA reported that there were no prior complaints against Kessler. The school, however, informed all the school's parents about the arrest via letter sent out while Kessler was being held on a $250,000 bail.

The Dallas Morning News also noted that a similar highly publicized case in 2009 resulted in the conviction of Philippe Padieu on six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (his bodily fluids) when he had condomless sex with several women and did not reveal his status to them. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
